We are beyond delighted to announce we have recently won a prestigious Great Taste Award for our Sticky Spiced Fig Flapjack.

Great Taste are regarded as one of the world’s most trusted food and drink awards.

They are judged by a panel of over 500 industry experts and attract more than 14,000 entries each year - if you see their coveted logo on any products, you know it will be delicious.

Having our Sticky Spiced Fig Flapjack recognised by the Great Taste awards is a special moment for the bakery after years of work and dedication to make the delicious bakes, which just happen to be gluten-free and vegan.

What the Great Taste judges said

The Great Taste judges noted that The Frangipane Bakery’s Sticky Spiced Fig Flapjack is;

“A generous and soft piece of flapjack. The flapjack was deep and sticky, with the fig coming through well and complementing the flavour of the oats. It was delightfully tasty and not overly sweet” and that,

“There is a lovely hit of spice on the nose, which is inviting. The taste on the palate is comforting, sweet and creamy, which is admirable given the absence of butter.

There is a lovely length to the flavour without it being just of sugar...the spice lingers long enough for you to want to eat a bit more. Very worthy of a star.”.

From a small beginnings in a kitchen in Oban

Rachel, our CEO and Founder commented that, “We are beyond delighted to have been awarded a Great Taste Award.

From small beginnings in my kitchen in Oban, to our specialist gluten-free bakery in Coldstream, it has been an exciting journey, and we don’t plan on stopping here.

Being awarded a Great Taste Award will also help support our social impact work at the bakery, aiming to close the disability employment gap in Berwickshire.”

As a social enterprise bakery, the profits we generate go to support our social impact work, including community outreach and education projects and employability programmes.

Our road trip to Great Taste

Not only did we get an award, but entering Great Taste meant we also had a great opportunity for an exciting road trip down to the Great Taste Headquarters in Dorset, to deliver our bakes in person!

Rachel roped in the bakeries biggest supporter (her dad) and the two of them enjoyed eating their way down to Dorset, stopping to try lots of tasty gluten-free recommendations on the way!
